2018 is around the corner, and with the new year comes new trends in everything from food to fashion to fitness to… (you guessed it) baby names. As you prepare for your new arrival, we’re here to give you a heads up on tomorrow’s trendiest baby names. Because it’s never too early to get ahead of the curve. Here are our predictions for the most popular baby names of 2018.

Barack, Michelle, Sasha and Malia

Many Americans are missing the former first family and this could cause these names to see a surge in popularity in 2018. In fact it has happened before!  According to the New York Times, There have been other presidential naming trends in the past century, according to Social Security Administration data. Franklin jumped to No. 33 in 1933, up from No. 147 in 1931. Dwight surged in the 1950s and Lyndon in the 1960s. Theodore hit its peak in the first decade of the 20th century.”

Halsey

Think about it—it’s actually kind of a cute name right? The singer, known for collaborating with the Chainsmokers on “Closer,” uses Halsey as a stage name. Her real name is Ashley Nicolette Frangipane. Celebuzz reported that the singer came up with her unique name from Halsey Street in New York City after she realized it’s also an anagram for her birth name.

Elizabeth, Susan and Gloria

After the Historic Women’s March in January 2017, more women than ever are embracing feminism and the important work of women’s rights activists. Chances are, you may see a lot of Elizabeths, after suffragist and civil rights activist Elizabeth Cady Stanton. There may be some Susans in your moms groups too, after Susan B. Anthony, women’s rights crusader. There may even be some Glorias, named after political activist Gloria Steinem.

Kate, Kevin, Randall, Jack and Rebecca

Whatever television show seems to be popular among the zeitgeist oftentimes will see babies named after characters on the show. Expect soon-to-be moms of multiples to introduce you to little Kate, Kevin and Randall, named after the popular fictional triplets on This is Us. The website Babygaga even went so far as to publish an article on 20 great baby names from the show.

Rumi and Sir

When news broke that Queen B had given birth to her long awaited twins, our first question was “What did they name them?” and our second question was “Huh?”. But if Jay Z and Beyonce have proven anything it is the power of their influence, so we should expect to see a rise in these 2 non-traditional names this year.

Traditional baby names

A baby name expert predicted the top names for 2017 on the Today Show earlier this year. The list included a lot of traditional baby names like Eliza, Sadie and Lionel that we think should stick around for 2018.

Thomas or Tom

Sure, the NFL joked about the concept of “Super Bowl Babies” with this commercial. Go one step further and name your 2018 Super Bowl Baby after the winners of the big game. This year’s teams predicted to possibly win include the Steelers, Cowboys, Patriots and Packers. Could there be some Bens, Daks, Dereks, Toms or Aarons on the horizon?

Weather-related names

You know what they say—Winter is Coming. The Weather Channel has started naming winter storms and some are pretty unique to say the least. If you’re interested in being different from the rest, give Argos, Pluto or Ursa a try. In the meantime, stay tuned for the 2017-2018 list.

Uniquely spelled names

This tradition has been going on for a few years now. Fit Pregnancy reported on uniquely spelled names like Brayden, Carsyn and Rian. If you want to spell a traditional name differently, get unique with it by substituting vowels.
