This list is like that third glass of wine—it seems like a great idea at the time, but you’re probably going to wish you made a different choice the next morning. These baby names are quite popular today, but you may end up seriously regretting them in the future.

Chardonnay

It’s true, this name was actually given to a child in 2013. As much as you may miss your nightly glass (or two…or three) of wine, we recommend not giving an alcoholic moniker to your child.

Blessed

Believe it or not, there were boys named Blessed back in 2014. While of course you may feel blessed that you have a new bundle of joy, naming them after a popular Instagram hashtag is probably not the best idea.

Emma

Emma is the most popular baby name of 2017 thus far. While the name is beautiful, simple and easy to spell, take it from this Katherine – it’s not easy always adding your last initial to everything due to the four other Katie’s in your class. At least with a name like Katherine you can change it to Kate or Katie. There’s not much else you can do with Emma.

Yogi

It seems like a match made in heaven—your partner is a huge baseball fan (Yogi Berra anyone?) and you’re obsessed with yoga, making you a self-professed yogi. Can you imagine the confusion and possible name-calling your son could go through growing up though? This one is best left to the yoga class attendees and Mr. Berra himself.

Snow

At first glance, this gender-neutral name is gorgeous and on the list of many nature-related baby names. But if you spend more than a split second thinking about it, you quickly realize how often your child will be met with quips from people young and old anytime a snowflake flies. This word is best kept to the winter months and for weather purposes only.

Augustus

Believe it or not, Augustus was one of 2017’s top names. Sure, it lends itself to some cute nicknames (Augie anyone?) but just wait until Augustus and his peers are old enough to read. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory typically comes around early elementary school reading lists and one of the main characters is Augustus Gloop, the gluttonous boy who meets an untimely end. Bring on the teasing for poor Augustus. This name is best left to fiction.

Evangeline

Evangeline was on the list of the top 100 girls’ names of 2017 so far, and it definitely deserves to be. It’s a lovely name that lends itself to plenty of nicknames, like Ev and Angie. However, when your little girl has to write her full name on say something like a big test at school or the SATs, she’ll be the last one to finish writing her name. While Evangeline is pretty, its length is one you may regret later.

Khaleesi

Just like Evangeline and Augustus, Khaleesi was on the top 100 list of names for 2017 so far. Often, names from popular television shows will creep into the lists of popular baby names. Khaleesi, a Game of Thrones name that refers to the Dothraki title that is given to the wife of a Khal, will most likely get a lot of head scratching when your daughter gets older and Game of Thrones is a thing of the past.
